Josef K. Eichinger, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty focus in shoulder and elbow surgery. Dr. Eichinger joins us to present and answer questions on Shoulder Instability in the Patient with Ehlers Danlos. Dr. Eichingher first talked about how Ehler-Danlos syndrome has many subtypes and the negative effects it has on the skin, ligaments, joints, blood vessels, and internal organs. EDS also creates orthopedic problems such as sprains, tendonitis, muscle spasms, ligament tears, joint pain, and an increase in the likelihood of fractures...these effects vary in severity patient to patient. Dr. Eichinger explains the 3 types of shoulder instability which are Anterior dislocation, Posterior Dislocation, and Multidirectional dislocation and how physicians test for shoulder instability. He then shared a few case examples and answered a variety of questions regarding EDS, physical therapy, and instability in general. This lecture was presented at Medical University of South Carolina on April 25, 2022 in-person and via livestream. (2022)
