While enjoying a walk around RiverWalk Park here in Washington, CT, I found myself reflecting on a few things, so I captured some of those thoughts to share with you. I tried not to go too deep into each one, but that is way easier said than done. There’s so much more that could be unpacked here. I talk a bit about the objective and the tangible, as well as the subjective and the intangible, as they relate to our roles as music educators. It’s difficult to even scratch the surface of some of these topics, but again, this is simply me thinking out loud. And if you know me, you know I could not resist touching on one topic in particular: how we teach rhythm in a K–12 music system. I definitely have some passionate thoughts on that, so thank you in advance for indulging me for a moment. It is a “Tik-A Tee Tuesday”, after all! I would love to hear your perspective, so please drop your thoughts in the comments. And to all the music educators out there, thank you for the incredible work you do every single day. The world truly needs you. 🎶 #TikATeeTuesday #MusicEd #MusicEducation #WashingtonCT #WashingtonDepotCT #Goals #Rhythm #Reflection Welcome to The Tik‑A Tee Method, a channel designed to help musicians and music educators master rhythmic sight‑reading with confidence. Based on my book, “Rhythmic Sight‑Reading: The Tik‑A Tee Method,” these videos serve as companion resources, offering step‑by‑step tutorials that simplify counting, time signatures, subdivisions, and complex rhythmic patterns. Perfect for band, choir, orchestra, jazz band, AP Music Theory, IB Music, guitar, private and general music classes, the method covers concepts from simple to compound time signatures, triplets, duplets, rests, borrowed divisions, and much, much more—all broken down into clear, repeatable patterns I call "musical sight words." The approach is rooted in one belief: “Music is a language. It should be taught like a language.” Vocalizing rhythms is the fundamental skill that will be the game changer you've been looking for! The book expands on these videos with deeper explanations, illustrations, pro tips, and 346 practice exercises—plus 363 MP3 tracks demonstrating every rhythmic exercise—making it both a study tool for students and a reliable resource for teachers. Whether you’re learning to count rhythms accurately, improve sight‑reading skills, or teach rhythm effectively, this channel bridges the gap between concept and performance for musicians at every level. About the Book Do you or your students struggle with rhythmic sight‑reading? My method is designed for all ensembles and instruments (including voice) and works seamlessly in band, orchestra, choir, and music theory classes. Structured as a 36‑week curriculum, it builds skills progressively, ensuring that students of any level can succeed at a comfortable pace. Three bonus chapters provide even more material, making it easy to use across multiple years without repeating exercises. With over 346 practice exercises and 363 MP3 examples, “Rhythmic Sight‑Reading: The Tik‑A Tee Method” uses visuals, summaries, and a logical structure to build rhythmic accuracy and confidence. Better rhythm means better melodic sight‑reading, less stress, and more joy in making music. Where to Buy Available on Amazon with free shipping for Prime members, or order through J.W.
