This time last year, I was still in high school, living a life that revolved around classes and friends. We played tic tac toe in class, laughed at the dumbest jokes, talked about everything and nothing, and kept texting long after we got home. But now, those ordinary moments have become rare. Meet-ups happen less often, and university life quietly pulls us in different directions. Looking back at our old photos, I realize I can’t even remember the last time we stood together in one frame. So this spring, I decided to ask them out to take Tết photos together. Tết always has a way of bringing people back together, not just physically, but emotionally. When I arrived and saw everyone waving at me, all my worries about things being awkward faded away. They were still them - the same people I had grown up with. Sitting there with them, I realized that growing up doesn’t mean losing these relationships - it just changes how we stay connected. We don’t need to text every day or meet all the time to stay close. Sometimes, moments like this are enough - coming back together during Tết, sitting side by side, updating each other on what’s been going on, and capturing these moments in photographs.
