Hottest Summer in 2026 | Business | Sarthak Ahuja

India is going to see one of its worst summers this season... and I’ll explain what’s happening... In February, Delhi’s temperatures crossed 32 degrees, making it the warmest Feb in three years The Meteorological Department is expecting severe heatwaves in the country starting March, which is much sooner than in previous years leading up to May... And this year, temperatures are expected to cross 45 degrees in Northern India... which is expecting to have an impact on a number of items... 1/ The electric grid expecting peak demand of electricity for cooling to be the highest ever this time at 260 GW in May, and night temperatures that are higher than usual... so the state grids are preparing for more electric load due to prolonged AC use... Plus, most analysts predict that India at the moment does not have as much supply of ACs as there is a demand, so we could expect an increase in price of ACs by 10-15% by April... maybe even inverters to deal with power cuts in case the load happens to be more than what the grids are expecting. India currently has about 8% household penetration of ACs, which is expected to grow a lot due to impulse buying expectation. 2/ Second is the impact on water... where Delhi has now become the #2 city in the world when it comes to water stress... and Bangalore has identified almost 450 “high alert” water stressed micro pockets, plus deployed over 1200 water tanks in anticipation of peak demand this summer A hotter climate leads to lower yields of wheat, dairy, chickpeas and vegetables, and quite like India imposed a ban on export of wheat in 2022, we may expect something similar this time due to lower yields... it has also impacted coffee yields, and prices expect to go up substantially compared to last year’s surge We literally need no more evidence to say that climate change’s impact is so real, it hits home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like, Share, Subscribe for more!
