(2 Jan 2018) More than a dozen flights out of New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed due to heavy fog on Tuesday. The tarmac was covered with intense fog and the Indian Meteorological Department reported visibility as low as 1.2 kilometres (0.75 miles). Many vehicles on the city's roads had their headlights on at 0900 (0330 GMT) due to the low visibility. Dhurinder Singh, who starts driving his auto rickshaw early in the morning, said he has to be extra careful to avoid crashing into possible pile-ups on the road, as he lives in an area with no streetlights. Heavy fog is common in northern India during the winter and causes several accidents each year.
