This case study introduces KARMA, a theoretical AI governance framework designed specifically for financial services to address the limitations of traditional oversight models. Using the fictional Meridian Bank and its PRISM credit model as a teaching tool, the text illustrates why modern AI requires more than just periodic manual reviews. The framework is built on four operational pillars: Knowledge, Agency, Responsibility, and Machine Accountability which shift governance from a reactive annual process to a continuous, technically-enforced system. A central scenario demonstrates how KARMA’s daily monitoring and pre-configured controls can detect and mitigate external data shifts, such as a drop in Hispanic loan approval ratios, far faster than legacy methods. Ultimately, the document serves as a conceptual design artifact intended for expert evaluation to determine if this structured approach is viable for real-world banking pilots.
