Upgraded Duck Pond Build (10x10 In-Ground Pond with DIY Filtration System) I recently upgraded my ducks’ pond to a 10x10 in-ground pond, approximately 3 feet deep, giving them plenty of space to swim, dive, and stay cool. To keep the water clean and safe, I built a DIY 50-gallon filtration system powered by a 35-watt solar pump. Here’s how the setup works: • Filtration Barrel Design: • I drilled a ¾-inch threaded hole at the bottom (standard garden hose size) where the solar pump pulls water from the pond and pushes it into the filter barrel. • At the top of the barrel, I drilled a 1.5-inch hole to return the clean water to the pond using PVC pipe, creating a waterfall effect that improves water circulation and oxygenation. • Filter Media Inside the Barrel: • 800 bio media balls for biological filtration, where beneficial bacteria thrive. • 5 round activated charcoal filters to help remove odors, toxins, and fine particles. • Maintenance Routine: • I do partial water changes every two weeks. • The filter barrel is cleaned every two weeks, and when rinsing the bio media balls, I always use pond water (not tap water) to preserve the beneficial bacteria. • Pond Liner: • I used a durable, flexible pond liner ordered from Amazon, which made installation much easier and waterproof. Products Used: • Pond Liner: https://a.co/d/dpGPnc9 • Charcoal Filter: https://a.co/d/9HERAJQ • Solar Pump: https://a.co/d/bs1TWjI • Bio Media Balls: https://a.co/d/aVZfHxO This setup has kept the water clean, the ducks happy, and the system eco-friendly with no electricity required, thanks to the solar-powered pump. The sound of the waterfall also adds a peaceful vibe to the backyard.
