In this episode of Easy M-C-Peasy, we tackle the question: where do I find MCP servers, and is there a central registry? When MCP first launched, the answer was… not really. Early on, you had to rely on hand-curated lists and reference implementations. Then came community-driven directories, tool-specific registries (like Cursor), and bigger players like Docker, Microsoft, and Anthropic building their own curated catalogs. Now the official MCP registry specification is on the horizon — with a preview registry launching at modelcontextprotocol.io in September 2025. The goal? A standard way for registries to interoperate while still allowing enterprises, vendors, and communities to run their own. Easy M-C-Peasy is a series where we take on the most common questions about the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and break them down simply and practically — from fundamentals to architecture, registries, and security. No hand-waving, just clear answers. Note: The official registry launched on September 8, 2025.
