Three Happy Sheep Watercolour Tutorial - Step by Step in Realtime Plus FREE Sketch Download!

Sheep in Snow I have a little flock of nine happy Jacob’s Sheep on my smallholding where I live in Brittany, and they are a great inspiration for my paintings. I hope you decide to have a go at painting them too! For this painting I used the following paints: Winsor & Newton Dioxazine Violet Indigo Ultramarine Blue Cobalt Blue Naples Yellow Burnt Sienna Designer White Gouache Black Dry Liner, size 0.5mm or approx 8 x 10 piece of 140lb watercolour paper (cold pressed) Round synthetic brush, size 12 Round synthetic brush, size 8 Old toothbrush If you go to my website you can download a FREE Sketch Traceable at: https://dianeantone.com/product/sheep... Method I like to paint my skies wet in wet, so first of all I dampened the paper behind the sheep and while the water soaked in slightly I roughly mixed up Indigo, Ultramarine and Violet, leaving it loose so that the different colours show through. I quickly and roughly applied the paint to the background, leaving the sheep untouched. I then wet each sheep and then painted each of them in a different pale colour, from right to left pale Burnt Sienna, light Cobalt Blue and thinned Naples Yellow, to give each sheep a slightly different tint. I then dropped in spots in a darker colour. You could do this by spattering, or with a brush. I used Indigo and Burnt Sienna. I used the same dark colour to paint their legs. When the sky had dried a bit I used a toothbrush and white gouache to spatter in the stars in the sky. I also used gouache on the sheep’s heads. I drew in the features on the sheep’s faces using a waterproof liner pen. I painted the star bright yellow. I used gouache to indicate the fluffy fleeces and added a few snowflakes. Done!
