Hussein inherits an army which remains passionately committed to the cause. A young boy says proudly, "It doesn't matter if I die because when I'm dying I am defending myself and my leader." Both Atto and Ali Madhi agree that the late General Aidid controlled Somalia "through the barrel of the gun". Aidid's foreign minister dismisses such enmity as a "family affair". Violent resistance to peace consistently dogs Somalia. Hussein Aidid - once a member of the failed UN Peace Force - now seems as determined as his father to sustain the blood shed and the anarchy.
