Last night at the BOE meeting, the head of SEPAG spoke out — and what she said should concern every parent in this district. She made it clear that special education has become a labor issue, and it should never be treated that way. Special education is about students, not staffing politics or contracts. She also stated that the district has serious problems with confidentiality and non-compliance, and she called on the administration to do more to protect our most vulnerable students. These are not minor issues. These are legal, ethical, and moral obligations. What makes this even more troubling is that these issues are surfacing while Dr. Chari Chanley remains on leave. The concerns being raised publicly beg the question of leadership, oversight, and accountability during this time. Our students deserve better. Special education must be handled with care, compliance, and respect — not reduced to a labor problem.
