Railroad Switching On Ancient Industrial Railroad Spur, Old Track, Grain Train & Cool Locomotives!

Industrial Railroad Spur & Short Line Railroad Switching! Working A Grain Spur On Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET In Winchester, Ohio. This is a rock train with a dozen grain hopper cars. The train worked the grain elevator spur on its way to the rock quarry. They set off a dozen empty railcars and picked up 5 loaded grain hopper cars and then continued on east. The grain spur has light weight stick rail that was rolled in the 20s, has sharp curves, close clearance to the grain elevator structure and has very little ballast. For those reasons six axle locomotives are not allowed to run on the track. Years ago I was here when a boxcar hit the grain elevator structure while NS was switching the spur. Freight cars and locomotives have gone on the ground here numerous times over the years. The grain elevator owns a small switcher that I have in numerous videos. It was purchased from NRE in Illinois after leasing it for years. After switching the grain elevator we see the other side of the train as it crosses the Mount Zion Road railroad crossing. This is where this video ends and Part 2 will start near the next town of Seaman, Ohio. The train set the 5 loaded cars off at the east end of the Mount Zion passing track. It then continued to the quarry at Plum Run, Ohio and shut down on the main line where the cars will be loaded. The conductor drives a company car and picks up the engineer at the end of the day. The train is a rock shuttle with a one person crew and the conductor in the car. The rock cars never leave the railroad branch. They are loaded at about Mile Post 75 and unloaded near Mile Post 16 on the main line along Round Bottom Road near Milford, Ohio. The rock trains are heavy and fun to watch. Its awesome standing next to a loaded rock train while the locomotives are working hard. I filmed one that was so heavy that it stalled out and had to be taken in two pieces. You need to see that video son! It is so awesome to see this railroad come back to life. Norfolk Southern tried to shut it down but was unable to when Huhtamaki located a huge plant on line. Since then there have been numerous customers come on line and Purina is building a giant dog food plant on line at Afton. They haven't started putting the tracks in for Purina yet so it will be 2024 or later before trains ship for them. Make sure you see Part 2 for this video which will show both sides of the train as it continues on to the quarry. It will also show the train shove across the unusual railroad crossing at the quarry.
