The afternoon energy is reaching its peak in Ho Chi Minh City as people come home from work, right as we are looking for some street food just JAM packed with flavor (and I think that this might be my new favorite dish!) "Bunn Jaeng John" (sound it out) is a dish high on both texture and flavor - hand-shredded green mango, salty dried shrimp (or beef jerky?), quail eggs, shallots and garlic oil, roasted peanuts, and finally a double saucing both tangy tamarind and spicy chili jam. I love the mixture of both fresh and preserved ingredients, I will never forget this dish BUT again let me re-affirm that its all about the beautiful situation in which we're having such a dish today. This husband and wife team is just so lovely and kind (and we meet their daughter later helping them the next day), although we could barely share any information through words we were all just smiling for our entire hangout. Life in South East Asia is fascinating, at the same time both rapid-paced but also slow and traditional, I love these travel situations and see them as the reason TO travel in the first place (food is often just the vehicle, its the entire meal experience that sticks with me). Thank you as always for hanging out with Li and I, for choosing to spend your time watching the videos that we put together.
