This is my flight from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to São Paulo Guarulhos on PH-BVB, a Boeing 777-300ER delivered to KLM in 2008 with GE 90-115B engines. The first image is of a KLM Boeing 747-400. KLM has a mixed fleet of passenger and kombi versions of this plane, where the cargo hold is behind the passenger area. I really miss flying on a 747. My last flight was 5 years ago on a BA 744 (LHR-GRU-EZE). Each day they are more of them being retired. From GRU we still have BA with 744 and LH with 748. The flight time to GRU will be around 11h 35 min during daylight. Amsterdam Schiphol airport has 6 runways. This trip I had to go from São Paulo to Barcelona. My goal was to fly with Lufthansa, not only because I'm a frequent traveler with Star Alliance, but mainly because I wanted to fly on the Boeing 747-8. When I bought my ticket, LH was way more expensive. The second choice was Singapore Airlines, which offers a direct flight and an unbeatable service, but it was much more expensive. KLM is a great company anyway and I've flown many times with them without a single issue. KLM and Lufthansa offer the longest flights from GRU to BCN because you need to go back south about 2 hours from FRA, MUC or AMS. It can be a bit tiresome, especially if you are not feeling great, as it was my case. The flight went mostly overwater until we reached Brazil. This is a quite boring route because there's nothing to see outside apart from water. Some flight paths fly a bit eastward and it's possible to see the Canary islands and Cape Verde. Towards the south, there are some other inhabited islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, as Ascension, St. Helena, Nightingale, Inaccessible Island and Tristan da Cunha. Only the two first have an airport. There are also some smaller archipelagos, as the São Pedro ans São Paulo Islands (BR) and Trindade (BR). It's not possible to fly over those islands on a South America to Europe flight. The only way would be flying from South America to Africa for Tristan da Cunha the only chance is EZE-CPT which no longer exists nether with South African Airways nor with Malaysia Airlines. An abundant lunch is served with a choice of alcoholic beverages. As I suggested in a previous video, the wine they serve (Elements from South Africa) is not good and they should have to change it for a better one. KLM's 77Ws have 4 classes divided in 3 cabins. Some of their 777-200s, despite being older than their 77Ws, have been equipped with new seats, IFE with touchscreens and power ports even in coach. The Boeing 777-300ER has raked wingtips to reduce the magnus effect, id est, the turbulences that form at the end of the wing and increase drag and reduce fuel efficiency. We entered Brazil above Fortaleza and flew close to the runway that belongs to the Fábrica Fortaleza de Alimentos, SJDS. Prior to landing we were sent to a holding pattern and completed at least a 360 over the cities of Taubaté and Guaratinguetá, NE of São Paulo. Many people on this flight will later connect with other flights to Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Bolivia mainly. That's why they speak Spanish (surprisingly I didn't hear Portuguese) GRU serves today as a hub to other southamerican countries with less traffic.
