Places to see in ( Munich - Germany ) Alter Hof The Alter Hof in the center of Munich is the former imperial residence of Louis IV, Holy Roman Emperor and consists of five wings: Burgstock, Zwingerstock, Lorenzistock, Pfisterstock and Brunnenstock. The Alte Hof (“Old Court”) is located in the historic city center of Munich. Under the Wittelsbach King Ludwig “The Bavarian” (Ludwig IV), it became the first fixed imperial seat of government in Germany. From the 13th to the 15th centuries, the Alte Hof was the residence of the Wittelsbachs. The multi-part building changed with the development of the city of Munich and was rebuilt again in 1950 after being destroyed in World War II. Later the Pfisterstock and the Brunnenstock wings were completely rebuilt as well. The Museums- und Schlösserinformationsstelle (“Museum and Castle Information Center”) for the state of Bavaria is located today in the Burgstock wing of the Alte Hof, as well as the exhibit “Münchner Kaiserburg” (“Munich’s Imperial Castle”), where among other things Munich’s oldest (late Gothic) vaulted cellar can be viewed. The Lorenzistock at Marienhof was rebuilt between 2003 and 2008 by the architects Peter Kulka.
