Korean retailers greet warming trend with special sales events

Oh Jung-hee has more on which products to look out for. It's just two weeks into April, and watermelons are already on sale at a big supermarket chain in Korea. That's about two weeks earlier than in previous years. The chain, E-mart, says that the warming weather is the main reason why they just had to put them on the shelves. "The weather is getting warmer and warmer. With summer on the way, we're offering the iconic summer fruit -- watermelons -- right now." The customers seem satisfied,... as they can buy the sweet summer fruit for a price that's twenty-percent lower than usual. "I've tasted the watermelons here and they're quite flavorful. They're pretty cheap, too." Other outlets are also getting a jump on their pre-summer sales events. Lotte Department Store launched its annual sundress sale on Wednesday. The retailer moved the event start date up by a month, again because of the warm weather. About one-hundred-twenty fashion brands will participate in the sales event that is to last until next weekend... and dresses will be sold at a maximum seventy-percent discount. The rising mercury has also bought a surge in sales of summer products online. One online shopping mall saw sales of shaving creams and hair removal wax go up by 30- and 50-percent.
