Project Managers: Create Project Plan and Develop Schedules - Plan the work that needs to be done, when and who's going to do it. Define targets and milestones to meet deadlines. Estimating Time and Cost - In some projects, Project Managers get to manage the budget and resources who will be working on it. Monitor and Control - Project Managers are constantly monitoring that the project is running smoothly and need to be ready to make decisions if something is not going according to plan. For that, Project Managers: Analyze Risks - this means that Look at risks during the project and manage the risks. Document - It's also crucial that Project Managers do a good gob documenting the project and create artifacts for the team to know what the project is about, how is it going and how things like risks are being mitigated. Communicate with stakeholders - you should know that Project Managers are the point of contact for the team and they are also responsible for communicating with executives to keep the project aligned with their vision and goals. Perform Quality control - They also make sure that the project is meeting the expected standard throughout development. Close and Sign-off - At the end of the project, they are responsible for making sure that the project is signed-off and properly closed - getting them ready for their next project to tackle. Program Managers: Organize Programs - Supervise multiple projects and work with project managers to track the progress. Develop new Programs - Make sure that new programs support the strategic direction of the organization Coordinate projects and interdependencies - and since they are working with many projects and teams, and the interaction and dependencies within these teams, they have to be on top of things to make sure that everything is working as smooth as possible within budget, time and scope. Manage risks across programs - Program managers also Work closely with multiple project managers to ensure that risks detected are mitigated. Get Buy-in from all stakeholders - Program Managers have to make sure that all the stakeholders are aligned and approve the program. This can be a complicated task, so good communication skills are very important for a Program Manager. Budget and Resources across projects - They also make sure that the multiple projects they manage are within the budget and resources planned Product Managers: Talk to customers throughout the product lifecycle to understand their pain points and also get feedback on the products or features. Are storytellers through documents, product requirements, features and stories and other artifacts Communicate and work with other disciplines like Engineering, marketing, finance and many others. Understand the business behind their product. Understand their competitors and the market for their products. Create Roadmaps and backlogs, and prioritize them. And influence others, and align stakeholders to sign-off on the product at different stages There are organizations where Project, Program and Product managers work together to make sure that products and features are released on time, budget and scope.
