Garston station opened on 1st April 1874 by the Cheshire Lines Committee. It was served by local services between Liverpool Central High Level, Warrington and Manchester, and also to Aintree Central on the North Liverpool Extension Line. Its original main entrance consisted of a brick building at street level on the south side of the line. The building was single-storey at street level but two-storey at platform level and it contained booking facilities and storage areas. Steps descended to the down (Liverpool direction) platform which had two single-storey brick buildings which provided waiting facilities and a two-storey stationmaster’s house. A section of canopy supported on iron pillars was provided on the platform. At the west end of the down platform there was a goods bay with loading ramp, Leading from the street level booking hall was a footbridge which gave access to the up (Manchester direction) island platform with two faces. This platform was provided with an extensive canopy, again supported on iron pillars, beneath which were timber-built waiting rooms. At the east end of the platform there were toilet facilities for gentlemen in the form of a cast iron urinal. The footbridge continued beyond the island platform to Hartington Road providing direct access to the station from the north side of the line. In 1960 the passenger service to Aintree was cut back to Gateacre. In 1966 services from Manchester were diverted to Liverpool Lime Street, leaving Garston with just the Gateacre/Liverpool train. This service continued until 17th April 1972, when Garston station closed along with the line from Liverpool Central high level. Garston station signal box closed on 23rd July 1967 after the up loop had been removed. It was demolished straight away and at some point in the later half of 1977 the street level building was demolished along with the footbridge and the extensive station canopies. All structures were removed from up platform, except the urinal. In 1978 the former CLC route through Garston was partially reinstated as part of the electrified Northern Line of Merseyrail, and the station reopened on 2nd January 1978 as a single platform terminus for services from Kirkby, the other 3 platforms remained unused. Prior to the 1972 closure, the station had been named simply Garston, but upon reopening in 1978, it became Garston (Lancs), which was changed in 1979 to Garston (Merseyside). In 1983 services were extended further south to Hunts Cross and Garston once again became a through station with two platforms. In 1984 services were diverted to run to Southport instead of Kirkby. From the airports opening in 1933 until 1986 it was the nearest station to Liverpool Airport. In 2004 work began on a combined rail-bus interchange at Liverpool South Parkway. The new station's proximity to Garston rendered the old station surplus to requirements. Garston closed on 10th June 2006 and Liverpool South Parkway opened the following day, Garston station was demolished soon after closure and no trace remains today, luckily we have photos and videos to remind us :) IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE A DONATION PLEASE VISIT THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE https://oldliverpoolrailways.wixsite....
