Pakistan showcases Nuclear capable Howitzer | How big threat it is for India?

Rising fire power of Pakistani Artillery During the Pakistan Day parade, Pakistan’s Military has showcased its major inductions from China which includes Chinese-made SH-15 self-propelled howitzer capable of firing Nuclear shells & a fly-past by Chengdu J-10 (J-10C) fighter jets for the first time. Apart from Howitzers, China has also supplied the NORINCO AR-1 300mm multi barrel rocket launchers. In 2019, Pakistan has signed a contract with Chinese firm NORINCO for the supply of 236 SH-15 155mm vehicle mounted Howitzers and AR-1 heavy artillery worth $512 million. The contract also involves the supply and transfer of technology for the various ammunitions to be used in the artillery including guided and extended range artillery shells with range upto 53KMs. The Pakistani army has more than 500 tracked self-propelled howitzers, including 200 M109A2, 115 M109A5, 123 M109L, and 203mm 60 M110/M110A2 howitzers built in the United States. Nuclear capable Artillery: Range 53KM The SH-15 was inducted into its army by the Chinese Army in 2018 or 2019 under the name PCL-181. This howitzer is capable of firing 155 mm NATO ammunition as well as indigenous ammunition. A total of five crew members are required to operate it. The weapon is fitted on the chassis of a Shaanxi truck with 6×6 wheels. The cabin of this truck has been made bulletproof. The windows and windshield in the cabin are bulletproof. One of its trucks is fitted with four boxes to carry 60 rounds of ammunition. The SH-15 is an artillery gun with shoot and scoot capability and can even fire a nuclear shell. It is lighter than a tracked howitzer and can be deployed more easily in the mountainous region. With normal ammunition, the armament system has a maximum range of 20 kilometres and 53 kilometres with a rocket-assisted artillery projectile. The artillery has been inducted by Pakistan Army to confront Indian K-9 Vajra howitzers. Does Pakistan have Nuclear Shells? The Sh-15 Howitzer could be made nuclear-capable if Pakistan’s attempts to miniaturize nuclear weapons have been successful. As per reports, Pakistan has been working on the miniaturisation of nuclear weapons since 1984, with Plutonium as the core. The US nuclear artillery shell W-48 uses 10kg high density alpha-plutonium with a sphere of barely 54mm.Pakistan’s ex-martial law administrator and self-proclaimed president Pervez Musharraf had told a US diplomat that Pakistan had produced the smallest nuclear warhead in the latter half of 2011. Such a warhead, if fitted in a 155 mm shell with a stated range of 53 km, will be detrimental to cities close to Pakistan border. But should India be concerned of Pakistan’s Nuclear shell, the answer is definitely yes because they can cause more devastating damage to limited area, but in the modern era warfare the tactical ballistic missiles have replaced the Nuclear artilleries. If Pakistan uses any such artillery in future, it will be responded by a tactical Nuclear ballistic missile which Pakistan definitely don’t want. Image India firing BrahMos or Pralay or Prithvi with a Nuke warhead.
