24-year-old Malik Naquan Humphries, who had active felony warrants from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s, led both Troopers with the Florida Highway patrol and Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed chase with speeds exceeding 100mph. The Florida Highway Patrol first received a request for assistance from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office in reference to them attempting to stop a red Toyota pick-up truck in the area of Hwy 85 and College Blvd just north of Niceville, FL. As the chase proceeded north bound on Hwy 85, troopers took over the pursuit near the intersection of State Road 123. After a failed attempt to stop the vehicle, Troopers performed a PIT maneuver near the 20-mile marker just south of Duke Field. Humphries lost control and crashed into the wood line on the east side of the highway. After exiting the upside-down Toyota truck, Humphries fled into the Eglin Airforce Base Reservation on foot with law enforcement giving chase. Malik Naquan Humphries, has been charged with Kidnapping, multiple counts of Fleeing and or attempting to elude law enforcement at high speeds, resisting an officer without violence, driving while license suspended, failure to appear for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as well as failure to appear for burglary out of state.
