Its reputation for spine research and patient care has been enhanced by many one-of-a-kind achievements, including: · TBI physicians were the first to perform lumbar total disc replacement in the U.S. · TBI physicians were the first to perform two level total disc replacement in the U.S. · TBI physicians have performed the most lumbar and cervical total disc replacements in the U.S. · TBI physicians pioneered many minimally invasive spine surgery techniques in the U.S. · TBI physicians are actively enrolling patients in FDA-regulated studies for surgeries or technologies that are currently only available outside the United States Along the way, Texas Back Institute became the first institution in the United States to prescribe outpatient myelography, and led the first FDA study of the artificial disc. In 1985, the founders created the TBI Research Foundation to improve patient care through research and education. Today, TBI also trains orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons through an accredited Spine Surgery Fellowship Program. These achievements, and many others, were celebrated by TBI during the 35th Anniversary reception in October at the DMA, located at 1717 North Harwood, in heart of the downtown Dallas art district.
