ReSure Glue in RK-Cataract surgery: GULANI Academy Series

Having performed hundreds of Post RK cataract surgeries with every kind of RK presentation from 4 to 36 incisions to criss-crossing AK and Hex K incisions, Dr.Gulani always teaches surgeons that it is not the number of cuts but how deep and how irregular the healing has occurred that decides how perilous these cuts are during cataract surgery. In this case of advanced Fuchs dystrophy, 12 incision RK and Grade 4 cataract (Red reflex is misleading in this brilliant light of the Lumera -Zeiss microscope), the first eye actually experienced opening of its incisions and needed a single suture for closure. In this case (second eye), Dr.Gulani used the recently FDA approved ReSure glue (approved for closure of cataract surgery incision but never before having been used for simultaneous cataract and RK incision closure) to effectively close the wound and adjacent weak RK incisions. Patient is seen immediate postop and next day and he was thrilled with his vision and comfort.
