Updated showcase of all unique hunting horn sounds and stats in Monster Hunter Wilds (Title Update 1) Each horn has 22 individal sound files, 12 of which are actual melodies. 9 of these melodies are for regular performances, the remaining 3 are for Encores/Performance Beats (& Focus Strike/Echo Bubbles). I sorted these 12 sound files into 4 groups in a way that makes the variations a little bit easier to hear and synced them to an animation loop. You are not able to hear the sound files like this in the actual game, sadly. To make it still a little bit easier to differentiate between them you can look at the letters in the bottom right corner. A,B and C are for the 9 performance melodies. E is for the 3 Encores/Performance beats. The only way to influence which melody is being played during gameplay is by choosing a different position on your song queue (by pressing Y(triangle) + R2 for the second song on your queue and B(Circle) + R2 for the third one) This only affects the very first sound file that is being played, if you play through your full song queue the second and third sound file will fall back to the regular group of melodies that is used if you play the first song on your queue. Encores/performance beats, different recital animations, playing echo waves or different buffs in general, playing just 1 or 2 songs from your queue, pressing any buttons and even performing while riding on your seikret all have no effect on which sound file is being chosen. To make things a little clearer: If you start a full performance of 3 songs with the first song on your queue (with no encores yet) you'll get the following pattern. (A) → (A) → (A) If you start a full performance of 3 songs with the 2nd song on your queue (Y/Triangle + R2) you'll get the following pattern: (B) → (A) → (A) And if you start a performance of 3 songs with the 3rd song on your queue (B/Circle+R2), you'll get the following pattern: (C) → (A) → (A) Adding Performance Beats won't change this distribution and just add melodies from the Encore group in between: (A),(E) → (A),(E) → (A),(E) (B),(E) → (A),(E) → (A),(E) (C),(E) → (A),(E) → (A),(E) So if you want more musical variation in your hunting horn gameplay, play the second and third song on your queue often. Please note that while the game still uses 4 groups for its melody distribution these groups are not necessarily the same I decided to show in this video (except for the Encore group), because I didn't know about the innerworkings of this then and I sorted them by another criteria anyway. Also, the chosen melody from their respective group seems to be purely random, but the game will never play the same audio file twice back to back.
