Helvellyn, the Edges and others | 4K | December 2022

Starting from a lay-by on the A591 just outside of Grasmere we made our way up towards Grisedale Tarn via Tongue Gill. From there we headed up to the summit of Helvellyn, circling around Dollywaggon Pike. It was quite icy on the top so opted for Microspikes for the descent down Swirral Edge and the ascent to Catstycam. It wasn’t as bad on the ascent up Swirral Edge. We then descended back down to Grisedale Tarn from Dollywaggon Pike and ascended Seat Sandal before dropping back down to Dunmail Raise. It was then the steep ascent up to Steel Fell and then onto Helm Crag before heading back to where we started.
