A Bikepacking trip to the Isle of Man - across on the Isle of Man steam packet ferry ⛴️- covering the entire Island - dividing into a North & South route including an additional ride across the Mountain Road the infamous A18 where the bungalow resides a fantastic view point & location of a grandstand during the IOM TT racing. A very good cafe in location before venturing on passing Snaefell & rolling down in to Ramsey - & following the coast around to Ballaugh Bridge ( another iconic view point for the TT Rcing) on through Kirk Michael to Peel. Point to note: There is no hard shoulder on the A18 across the mountain there is also an official/unofficial no speed limit.. so be mindful if you are going to cycle it .. it’s imperative you choose a clear day & avoid the busier times during the weekends, I believe there is a ban on cyclists actually using the road in & around TT even when open to other local traffic due to the sheer volume of traffic! Also take into your planning the wind which was certainly testing when we cycled easliy gusing 40knts.. On the south side you roll through some fine coastal towns / ports including Castletown - Port St Mary & Port Erin, however be prepared for a long drag climb out of Port Erin on the A36 it’s around 8.5km .. All in all a good circuit to do, I had cycled the circuit (the coastal circuit) in a day previously covering approx 150km however this time around I wanted to cover more inland as well. We covered 230km on the IOM 🚴🚴 incorporating 3,200m of climbing while consuming 10,300 calories The Steam Packet Ferry now charge £10 each way for cycles, (£20R) something that has just been introduced - as I was never charged previously. All in all a great place to cycle/ Bikepack and see the sites, as is always the case with such locations choose the time you visit carefully to get the best experience. Great places to eat incude the “Cat with no Tail” & Jacks on the promenade in Douglas. Enjoy! 😀🚴
