Created for the 2011 Sci Fi London 48hr Film Competition by The Collector's Collective. As you might guess, we had 48 hours to write, design, shoot, edit, mix and deliver a 5min short film. We were given the following random elements: A Title- "The Full Range" A Prop/Shot- Three watches set to the same time with a fourth laid down next to them. A Line of Dialogue- "Don't touch it. Never touch it. Damn, that was close." We had four actors- Gary Richens, Tom Capper, Rebecca Hansell and Chris LeHec- on call and a cool location at our disposal. After recieving our random elements, writer Luke Owen set about developing story ideas and writing a script. By mid afternoon, we had a draft ready and went on location where director Kate Hansell and I planned the shots and sequences. Saturday evening was spent rehearsing with the actors, storyboarding and getting all the props and catering together. On sunday, shooting started early to capture the sunrise (in leiu of sunset) which allowed us to keep ahead of our busy schedule. The film was shot in HDV on a Sony Z1 using natural light and reflectors since there was no mains power on location. Editing took place through the night and sound mixing (such as it was) was finished early monday morning. After a panicked DVD encoding and burning session (due to issues with the DVD's field dominance), Kate and Luke delivered the film to Sci Fi London just before midday.
