This video is a demonstration of the Finkelstein’s Test. The purpose of the Finkelstein's Test is to test for De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis. This condition is brought on by irritation or inflammation of the wrist tendons, namely the Extensor Pollicis Brevis and the Abductor Pollicis Longus at the base of the thumb where a positive Finkelstein's Test could be indicative of the presence of De Quervain’s making thumb and wrist movements painful. With your patient seated, get your patient to make a fist around their thumb then ulnarly deviate. A positive finding would be if your patient complains of pain over the 1st extensor compartment of the wrist with this particular movement. A positive Finkelstein's Test would indicate a potential diagnosis for De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis.
