Public art is in the midst of a profound shift. No longer limited to static monuments or objects in civic spaces, it is increasingly rooted in process, participation, and practices that engage directly with communities. In this session, Ruth Erickson, Chief Curator and Director of Curatorial Affairs at the Institute of Contemporary Art, sits down with Karin Goodfellow, Director of Transformative Art and Monuments at the City of Bostonʼs Mayorʼs Office of Arts and Culture; Abigail Satinsky, Program Officer and Curator of the Wagner Foundationʼs Arts & Culture portfolio; and two 2025 James and Audrey Foster Prize Artists, Sneha Shrestha (IMAGINE), and Alison Croney Moses, to discuss how artists, designers, and institutions are reimagining public art as both personal tools for social engagement and collective expression.
