Frank founder Charlie Javice sentenced for JPMorgan fraud https://ift.tt/8MEXCht This is a developing story out of Manhattan where startup founder Charlie Javice has learned her fate. Javice, the entrepreneur behind the student financial aid company Frank, was sentenced today to 85 months, or over seven years, in federal prison. The sentencing follows her conviction earlier this year on multiple fraud charges. Javice was found guilty by a jury of bank fraud, wire fraud, securities fraud, and conspiracy to commit fraud. These charges stem from her dealings with banking giant JPMorgan Chase. In 2021, JPMorgan acquired Frank for a reported $175 million, a deal that was predicated on the size and scope of Frank's user base. Prosecutors successfully argued that Javice deliberately falsified customer data to inflate the perceived value of her company. Specifically, Javice provided JPMorgan with a fabricated customer list that purported to show 4 million users. In reality, the actual user base for Frank was significantly smaller, estimated to be around 300,000 individuals. This deception was central to JPMorgan's decision to proceed with the acquisition at the high valuation. The sentencing today marks a significant legal conclusion to this high-profile fraud case.
