Durga Shakti Nagpal is Known for the fearless and the strongest action against the invincible and dreaded illegal sand miners, in her very first posting in Uttar Pradesh in Noida. Ms Durga Shakti Nagpal is a civil servant in the UP cadre of the Indian Administrative Service. She had the guts to take action against UP state's sand mafia in the year 2013. Known for the fearless and the strongest action against the invincible and dreaded illegal sand miners, in her very first posting in Uttar Pradesh in Noida. Durga stood with the poor villagers who were getting displaced due to rapidly eroding river bank owing to rampant illegal mining. She was removed from Noida which saw nationwide protests against her removal. She was finally reinstated due to national pressure. Noida episode is perceived to be a victory of the oppressed classes against the prevalent corruption and criminalisation in politics. Durga continues to serve with the same zeal and responsibility bearing hopes of many from the far corners of the country. She currently serves as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Commerce in Govt of India This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
