I am using a 110k Btu Camplux propane Camping Shower heater to heat my pool on natural gas. Propane will only run for four hours on a single 20lb cylinder on high at a cost of 16.99 per tank or $102.00 per day. Running the unit on Natural gas will reduce the heating capacity to 50k Btu but at a cost of only $10.00 per day. This unit runs on two D batteries and has a flow switch. It will run continuously until it looses flow. I can operate this heater with a small submersible 1/4 hp pump or connect it to my pool pump. The submersible pump uses only 2.6 amps while the pool pump is 10 amps. The temperature rise at 2 GPM (gallons per minute) is about 30 degrees on natural gas. This is a great way to enjoy the pool 6 months out of the year as opposed to 4 months in Michigan. Total cost for all parts is about $450.00 for a lightweight, simple, and affordable pool heater.
