But that is beginning to change. “Charging Ahead: Manufacturing the EV Future of Agriculture” looks at new innovations in EV technology that are helping farmers cut fuel costs, reduce oil dependency and improve their carbon footprint. Hosted by Monarch Tractor President and Tesla manufacturing pioneer, Mark Schwager, this session will focus on the development and manufacturing of EV machines that are leading farmers and the agriculture industry toward a more sustainable future. If agriculture hopes to attain a sustainable future, reliance on fossil fuels must end. But that is easier said than done. Many of the traditional machines farmers use are gas powered, resulting in harmful emissions being released on the farm and beyond. New innovations in electrification, including advanced battery technologies, represent a greener path forward. The challenge is in developing and manufacturing battery-powered machines that fulfill the daily needs of farmers while offering economic value and also remain true to the tried-and-tested originals. Additionally, the machines themselves must be manufactured in such a way that their carbon footprint is not worse than the emissions themselves. Mark has over a decade of experience leading manufacturing organizations and has developed over 16 million square feet of manufacturing space. Mark previously served as head of the Tesla Gigafactory, leading the project from concept phase to construction. He also led the operations planning team and built the business systems for Tesla's Fremont factory and led the manufacturing program for Tesla's collaboration with Toyota for the Rav4 EV. In his career, Mark has also served as head of manufacturing and supply chain at Zoox and Chief Production Officer for Romeo Power Technology. Mark holds a BS in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University.
