What I found was gross, but the fix was easy and SO satisfying! Here’s what happened & how I fixed it: 1. The Symptom: The water just didn’t taste right. Not dangerous, but definitely not fresh. 2. The Investigation: I unplugged it, emptied it, and took the whole plastic drum/tank off the base. 3. The Gross Discovery: When I opened it up for a deep clean, I found old water residue, slime (biofilm), and—the real issue—a small leak in the drum where it connects to the base. That leak was letting in air and moisture, causing the strange taste and potential for mold! 4. The Fix: o Deep Clean: I scrubbed the entire drum, lid, and base with a vinegar-water solution (1:1) to kill any bacteria or mold. o Leak Repair: I found the tiny seal causing the leak. I dried it completely and sealed it with food-safe, waterproof epoxy (found at any hardware store). o Final Rinse & Reassembly: I rinsed everything thoroughly, and put it all back together. The Result? The strange taste is GONE! The water is crisp and fresh again, and the cooler works perfectly. No more leaks! Moral of the story: A strange taste is your appliance’s cry for help!
