#cotswolds #englishcountryside #snowdrops Today, we’re visiting Cerney House Gardens, one of the very best places to see snowdrops in the Cotswolds. At this time of year, when winter can feel never-ending and the post-Christmas lull has truly set in, these tiny white flowers are a beautiful reminder that spring is just around the corner. After weeks of dark mornings and cold days, seeing the first snowdrops pushing through the frozen ground feels almost magical. Reaching their peak in late January and early February, they bring a much-needed touch of light, hope, and beauty to a winter’s day in the English countryside. Located just north of Cirencester, Cerney House Gardens are one of the Cotswolds’ true hidden gems. Set on a gentle hillside just outside the picturesque village of North Cerney, the gardens surround Cerney House, a village manor house first built in 1660 and now owned by the Angus family. The estate is surrounded by 40 acres of parkland and woodland, creating a wonderfully peaceful setting to explore. As you wander through the gardens, you’re greeted by stunning carpets of snowdrops around every corner. There’s even a clearly signposted Snowdrop Trail, making sure you don’t miss any of the best displays along the way. Beyond the snowdrops, Cerney House Gardens offer so much more to discover. Highlights include a beautiful Victorian walled garden, the romantically named Rose Walk, an atmospheric Ice House, Chapel Ruins, and a fascinating medieval herb apothecary garden—each adding to the charm and history of this special place. If you’re looking to see snowdrops in the Cotswolds and would prefer a peaceful garden away from the usual crowds, I can’t recommend Cerney House Gardens enough. It’s a truly tranquil experience—and one I think you’ll absolutely love.
