I had to re-edit this due to copyright issues Throughout history, there has been a misconception that certain organized crime groups refrained from killing politicians, senators, judges, or any other public officials, including police officers. However, this perception is far from accurate. Organized crime groups have indeed targeted and murdered key political and judicial figures whenever they posed a threat or stood in their way. This violent trend has been documented globally, from Mexico and South American countries to parts of Central Asia during the mid-20th century. Political assassinations carried out by organized crime were notably frequent during the 1930s through the 1980s. For example, the French Corsican mafia, known for its ruthless enforcement of the code of omertà, was notorious for eliminating politicians, senators, and judges who dared to prosecute or defy them. Similarly, the New York mafia occasionally assassinated corrupt police officers and other public officials who threatened their operations. Despite these actions, they typically refrained from targeting highly public figures, a policy enforced by influential mobster Lucky Luciano. In Chicago, mob influence was so pervasive that mobsters openly intimidated and sometimes physically attacked politicians and mayors to demonstrate their power. Louisiana also witnessed its share of political violence, with numerous public officials, including mayoral candidates and judges, becoming victims of assassination. One of the most formidable and notorious figures in organized crime was Salvatore “Totò” Riina, known as the “boss of bosses” of the Sicilian mafia. His reign of terror in Italy, spanning nearly four decades, was marked by extreme cruelty, earning him the nickname "the Beast." Riina was responsible for the assassination of numerous criminal rivals as well as the prosecutors, journalists, and judges who dared to oppose him. His criminal activities extended to involving his own family; his son was only 17 when Riina ordered him to murder a kidnapped businessman—a grim initiation into the Cosa Nostra. Riina's brutal campaign continued unabated until his ultimate arrest and incarceration. He died in a prison hospital bed, unrepentant and defiant to the end, leaving behind a legacy of violence and fear that had a profound impact on Italy's struggle against organized crime. #TheIrishman, #MartinScorsese, #RobertDeNiro, #AlPacino, #JoePesci, #MobMovie, #GangsterFilm, #NetflixOriginal, #TrueCrime, #FrankSheeran, #JimmyHoffa, #ScorseseFilm, #MafiaMovie, #CrimeDrama, #FilmReview, #OscarBuzz, #CinematicMasterpiece #MovieNight, #MovieRecommendation, #Cinephile
