Glendale is a city in the San Fernando Valley and Verdugo Mountains regions of Los Angeles County, California. City of Glendale is located about 10 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Glendale is served by four freeways: the Glendale Freeway (State Route 2) travels through the east region, the Ventura Freeway (State Route 134) travels through the south region, the Foothill Freeway (Interstate 210) travels through the north region and the Golden State Freeway (Interstate 5) travels through the west region. LADOT, Metro Local, Metro Rapid, and Glendale Beeline all have buses that run in the city. Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line and Ventura County Line stop at the Glendale Transportation Center before terminating at Los Angeles Union Station. Amtrak Pacific Surfliner also stop at Glendale Transportation Center. Glendale Transportation Center Originally known as the Glendale Southern Pacific Railroad Depot, it was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the California Churrigueresque style of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture in 1923. It had replaced the Atwater Tract Office dating from 1883. The city bought the depot from Southern Pacific in 1989 and acquired adjacent properties to create an intermodal center. In May 1997, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Downtown Glendale There are three big shopping centers in downtown Glendale: Galleria mall, The Americana At Brand, and Marketplace. Three shopping centers located along Brand Blvd with hotels and restaurants around is one of LA tourist attractions. Galleria mall is a large three-story indoor shopping mall with two large indoor parking structures and the biggest shopping center in downtown. Opened in 1976 with 1.6 million square feet of retail space, Galleria mall is also the fourth largest mall in Los Angeles County. Major stores are Bloomingdale's, JCPenney, Macy's, and Target. The Americana At Brand is an outdoor shopping center, dining, entertainment and residential complex and second large shopping center in downtown. The property was built and is owned and operated by Caruso Affiliated. Caruso Affiliated also operates The Grove at Farmers Market in Los Angeles city. Both The Americana at Brand and The Grove have Caruso Concierge personal service. Major stores are AMC, SAMSUNG Experience Store, and Apple store. Marketplace is the smallest one among these three shopping centers. The Americana at Brand shopping center is right cross the Brand Boulevard. Glendale Galleria mall is one block west. Cross Harvard Street is Glendale Central Library. Major stores are LA Fitness, HomeGoods, Ross, and Five Below. Driving from LA city: Take Highway 101, then Highway 134 exit 8 Glendale Ave. Turn right into Monterey Rd.
