Scott Joplin's complete set of known piano rolls cut by the composer himself, now all in one single video! Also featuring what had been the long lost "Pleasant Moments" roll, rediscovered by historian Robert Perry! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Joplin's Piano Rolls: Slowly fading away from the mental & physical havoc of syphilis, Joplin spent little of his remaining life on musical composition by 1916. During this period however, he remarkably managed to participate in a few sessions of recording piano rolls played by himself. Apart from the famed Maple Leaf Rag, "lesser known" works had also been included to the list of performances such as Weeping Willow & W.C. Handy's Ole Miss Rag. Despite there being obvious edits & corrections made in accommodation to Joplin's illness, his second rendition of Maple Leaf Rag provides the closest glimpse to his true performance at the time-- granted the roll also having it's fair share of edits. Cutting his final roll by mid-Summer of 1916, the absence of any further sessions or compositions could be explained by the progression of syphilis, which would hospitalize him the following year. Upon his passing on April 1st, the seven hand-played rolls left behind would serve as one of the few guides in what the "Joplin Style" of Ragtime could really chalk up to.
