It is learned that the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has undertaken a project to build a boundary wall and digital walkway to keep the banks of the river free from permanent occupation. Transparency in Buriganga and Turag waters has also returned due to the government's multilateral initiatives. The stench has also decreased. Construction of six pontoons and four eco-parks along the river bank as well as seating benches, sewerage system, 19 jetties for heavy vehicles, and development work is underway.AKM Arif Uddin, Joint Director, BIWTA, said, "We promised to uproot the river at any cost and try to keep it intact."The locals on the banks of the river Buriganga say that we never expected to set up boundary pillars on the banks of the river, it seems like a dream to us. If this great project is implemented, we will witness a beautiful new capital like Singapore. The initiative taken by the government to eradicate the river from illegal occupation is also commendable.
