TAWANDA is the 2020 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition Winner and the 2023 Bistro Award for Jazz Vocalist. Tawanda’s first professional performance was on the pandemic stage in the parking lot of Campus JAX on June 11, 2020. Since then, she has risen to become one of the nation’s premiere vocal jazz performers. Acclaimed New York jazz critic WILL FRIEDWALD says this of Tawanda: “Young musicians tend to want to play as loud and fast as possible; the ability to essay a slow, romantic song develops with maturity. Yet Tawanda has reached a very high level at a remarkably early age – she’s already a formidable balladeer. Both the album and the Birdland show rank among the best debuts I’ve ever heard.” RESONANCE RECORDS is an independent jazz record label founded by recording engineer and jazz curator George Klabin in 2008 as the centerpiece of the Rising Jazz Stars Foundation, a non–profit organization dedicated to preserving the art and legacy of jazz.
