The holiday getaway area 15km (9 miles) west of the capital Kabul had been drawing crowds for activities such as horse riding and visits to theme parks. Restaurants and hotels along the shore were also frequented by Afghan government officials and businessmen. While many businesses are suffering, some owners hope conditions will eventually improve.
