Conventional Fuel Supply Systems in diesel engines require high-pressure lines to deliver the pressurised fuel into the injectors. Transferring fuel through narrow lines results in several complications. In order to avoid this, modern injection systems were developed. This video is about one such injection system called the Electronic Unit Injector System. We have explained what is an electronic unit injector, its construction, working, advantages and disadvantages. A unit injector is a compact component which integrates the injection pump and the injection nozzle as a single part. In a unit injector system, each cylinder is provided with an individual injector. An electronic unit injector is mechanically driven but controlled by electronic means. The injection pump is driven by means of a cam and it uses a high-pressure solenoid valve that controls the injection based on the signals received from the ECU. As this system is controlled electronically, it has several advantages when compared with conventional systems. It has better fuel efficiency, improved power and fewer vibrations. But the system also has its own disadvantages too. The cam-driven pump cannot supply fuel at high pressure when the engine runs at low speeds. This can be overcome by the Common Rail Direct Injection System (CRDI). About Skill-Lync Skill-Lync helps you learn industry-relevant skills that will accelerate your career.
