After seeing more and more 19+ Chevy and GMCs with long travel pop up with 39" and 40" tires, they just look good. I talked to Nick Gardner at Dirt King, and he explained what they did to a recent install and 39" BFGs. He was confident that they could make an actual 40" tire work, so I ordered up a set of 40x12.5x17 Toyo RT Pros and dropped my truck off for the work to be done. The plan was to remove the shocks, mount the tire on my wheels, and compress the suspension to its full bump, reflecting the maximum amount of up travel the suspension would ever experience. From there, they rotated the steering left to right and formed a plan to start making modifications to the inside of the fender area, the cab's firewall, and the outer fiberglass fender. They soon reached a point where they were happy with the result and performed all the finishing touches needed before applying a fresh coat of black paint. In the rear, they trimmed the fiberglass fenders, and while they had the truck, they did a suspension check and replaced any service items that needed attention. In the video, when I walked around the corner, it was the first time I saw the full truck on 40's. I actually was shocked how big it looked, but overall I was super happy with how it turned out. As always, it is an excellent experience to work with Nick Gardner and the team at Dirt King. They are, without a doubt, one of the best shops I have had experience with, and that's why I keep going back to them. -------------------------------------------------- My 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 has a Dirt King Long Travel suspension package. The suspension was installed at Dirt King in San Diego, CA. Nick Gardner, the shop manager, was great to work with, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
