Both he and his ex-wife (Alice) have a preference for Michael, then Chris, and lastly Elizabeth. William doesn't hate her, I guess..but he finds her annoying and unnecessary, since he had only planned to have two children. Even so, he didn't get rid of her so he could investigate the remnant better, and what better way than with his daughter? To be honest, William simply enjoys teasing Elizabeth and making her feel inadequate, which is why he's going to tease her even more now that Charlotte is around.
