The Medway towns of Chatham and Gillingham, used to be thriving spots alongside the Medway river with a strong naval and even tourism presence. However within the last few decades, for many reasons which we explore, this is no longer the case. The politics here are very nuanced, with both local councillors and the central government ignoring particular towns while investing in others. Unfortunately, it was very sad to see so much homelessness and deprivation here, yet every local I met was extremely friendly. Thanks to the locals of Medway for showing me around!
