CIAA member Virginia State University claims him rightfully, but Baltimore is where it all started for Reginald F. Lewis when he was born here in 1942. At age 10, he set up a delivery service to distribute the Afro American Newspaper. Two years later, he sells it for a profit. In the 1960's he declares he's going to become the richest Black man in America. Throughout his life, he broke barriers. He's the only student ever invited to attend Harvard Law School without applying. In 1970, he and some colleagues started Wall Street's first African American law firm. By 1987, after several successful business deals, his venture capital firm TLC Group, L.P., reported annual sales of $1.8 Billion dollars. Sadly, at just 50 years old, he died from a cerebral hemorrhage related to brain cancer. “Keep going. to build a better society in America. To be a compassionate America, keep going, no matter what," Lewis said.
