Federal agents are being pulled out of Minneapolis and the Trump administration’s crackdown in the state is coming to an end after several weeks of raids and enhanced activities that put the city on edge. White House border czar Tom Homan announced Operation Metro Surge would wind down on Thursday, ending a monthslong saga that brought mass detentions, protests and the deaths of two protesters. “As a result of our efforts here Minnesota is now less of a sanctuary state for criminals,” Homan said at a news conference. “I have proposed and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operation conclude.” Immigration agents will have more access to undocumented immigrants being held in county jails in Minnesota after Homan said he had productive conversations with state officials. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement started the operation on Dec. 1. Federal authorities said more than 4,000 people were arrested during the operation. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WOAI on Instagram: / news4sa WOAI on Facebook: / news4sa WOAI on Twitter: / news4sa Subscribe to WOAI on YouTube: / @woaivideo Daily News Playlist: • WOAI 4 San Antonio Daily News Digest For more information, visit https://news4sanantonio.com/ Have a news tip?
