Following the launch of the plastic bottle and aluminium can deposit refund scheme In November 2022, Voice of Vision Impairment (VVI) contacted Re-Turn who are the operators of the scheme with queries on the accessibility of the reverse vending machines and a home delivery take back scheme for empty bottles and cans like they have in Germany. None of our phones calls or emails were responded to. The deposit refund scheme launched in the Republic of Ireland on February 1st, 2024 with no home delivery take back scheme and several manufacturers supplying machines which require touch screen interaction rendering them inaccessible to blind and partially sighted customers. We are happy to confirm that RVM reverse vending machines at Lidl, Centra and Supervalu work without touch screen interaction. Adding a bottle starts the process and when you are finished adding empty bottles or cans, waiting approx 30 seconds prints the receipt automatically. The reverse vending machine in this bodycam video is located to the right of the entrance matwell at Lidl on Edward Street in Tralee, Co Kerry.
