My Thoughts on the 1985 Mazda Rx7 with a 1987 1.3L 13b engine swap, and 5 speed manual transmission: This is my car. My crowning achievement. The most valuable Item I own. I built this car. I bought it, blew the motor, and was devastated. Over a year later, with the help of online forums and willing friends, My Rx7 now has a 13b engine under the hood. The 13b Rotary engine is fuel injected, and makes around 145hp. It’s redline is 7800 rpm. That might not seem like a lot, but consider the fact that it’s a 1.3L, and weighs as much as a high school linebacker. Being so small, the engine fits behind the front axel, making the car handle even better. But what makes this car so great, is the fact that I built it. Without me, this car would be sitting in a junkyard rusting away. To drive a car you built, is a feeling like no other. After months of turning the key and only being disappointed, turning the key and hearing it fire up may be the best sound in the world. I can actually say “Built not bought” not ironically. This car qualifies as a build. Your plasti-dipped wheels and lowering springs, do not. What did I have to do for the swap? A lot. But it could be worse. The 13b is from a 1987 Mazda rx7. I needed a new engine mount and oil pan to fit the engine into the chassis. New fuel pump, radiator, oil cooler, and fuel lines were needed. The ECU got upgraded to a Mega squirt, along with the engine harness being significantly cut down. A full emissions delete was done to the engine for better efficiency. With a little spray of paint and break cleaner, the 13b works great. My wheels: • Rotary Life Ep. 9: New Wheels
