Welcome, accomplices. In this first video of a three-part miniature series, I’m creating a small birch tree watercolor to fit inside a repurposed frame. I wanted this project to be simple, satisfying, and practical — something I could make from materials I already had in the studio, while also preparing smaller works for an upcoming market. In Part 1, I share how I size the paper, mask out the tree shapes with tape, build a soft background using granulating colours, and then finish the piece with bark texture and delicate branches. This is a quick and approachable little project, but it still has lots of atmosphere and personality. If you enjoy watercolor, birch trees, and finding creative ways to use what you already have, I hope this inspires you to try your own miniature series. Stay tuned for Parts 2 and 3 as the full framed set comes together.
