🛕 Golden Temple / Harmandir Sahib – Information 🔹 What is it? The Golden Temple, also called Harmandir Sahib, is the holiest shrine of Sikhism. It is located in Amritsar, Punjab, India and is a major spiritual and cultural center for Sikhs across the world. 🔹 Meaning of “Harmandir Sahib” Har = God Mandir = Temple Sahib = Respect 👉 Harmandir Sahib means “The abode of God” 🔹 History Founded by Guru Ram Das Ji (4th Sikh Guru) in the 16th century. The temple was completed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji (5th Sikh Guru). Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the holy scripture of Sikhs, was first installed here. The gold plating was added later by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th century. 🔹 Architecture Built in the center of a holy water tank called Amrit Sarovar. Four entrances on all sides → symbol of equality and openness to all religions. Lower level than surrounding land → symbol of humility.
